About
Who checks the fees on Vital Record Cost
Radif Partners
Independent publisher of state-by-state costs and rules for birth, death and marriage records in the United States
Vital Record Cost is published by Radif Partners, a company that builds free tools on public data. This one is for anyone who needs a certified copy of a birth, death, marriage or divorce record in the United States, or a marriage license: parents applying for a first passport, families settling an estate, couples planning a wedding date.
What the site does
It puts the fee the state itself charges first. A certified birth certificate costs from $9 to $34 at the 52 state and city offices, and each office publishes that price on its own page, often far from the order button. The calculator adds the price of the extra copies, which many offices sell for less when they are ordered with the first one, the online fee of the vendor the state has chosen when the state publishes it, and express shipping if you want it. For marriage licenses it gives the fee, the first day the ceremony may take place and the last day the license is valid. Everything is computed in your browser.

Where the figures come from
Every fee was read on the official page of the office that charges it: state departments of health, the New York City health department, state statutes, and county or town clerks for licenses priced locally. The sheets cite 287 official pages and were last read on October 24, 2026. The method page explains how each number is checked and how sure we are of it.
What we are not
We are not a government agency, a vital records office or an ordering service. We cannot order a record, see whether one exists or speed up an order, and we use no state seal or logo. The only places to order are the office itself and the vendors it names.
How the site is paid for
It is free and needs no account or email. We sell no document service, take no commission and link to no firm that charges for ordering records. If advertising is added one day, it will never sit above a calculator.
